I just learned that DHS is in the process of changing its policy on charging certain minors with making false claims to US Citizenship. Making a false claim to US Citizenship causes a permanent bar. Up until now that meant that even if you were a 6 month old and your parents claimed you were a US Citizen you could be charged with false claim and be barred permanently from the US. Yes this is a very harsh punishment for someone who had no control over what was said. Imagine a child a 6 month old, a 5 years old, a 10 years old etc., sleeping in the back seat of a car, and their parents or guardians make the false claim to US Citizenship on their behalf. It is obvious to anyone with common sense that the child had no intent or capacity to make that claim due to their age. But up until now it didn't matter.
Now, Immigration is changing their policy with respect to certain minors...stay tunned more information is coming.
Another positive step in our nation's immigration policy.
