It is very upsetting because I cannot adequately represent someone if I don't know the entire truth about their criminal history and immigration history. I don't understand why anyone spend the time and money to hire an attorney and then not be truthful with the very person whose job it is to defend and advocate for them.
So please, if you are going to hire me or any other attorney for that matter, tell them everything.. upfront...not while we are sitting in court waiting for your case to be called.. not after your application has already been mailed... don't wait until it is brought up by the ICE attorney in court... or the Immigration officer during your interview... don't tell me after I've spent hours researching your case and preparing a case plan. One little detail can and very likely will change the entire case.
Omissions, lies, misstatements destroy the attorney client relationship & prevent the attorney from being fully prepared and adequately representing you.
Lessons for potential clients:
If you think it is important...it probably is very important...so tell your attorney!
Even if you don't think it's important.. it probably is very important...so tell your attorney!
Even if you think there is no way anyone will ever find out, ever... someone probably will... so tell your attorney!
