Wow... I thought it would be closed eventually when the pilot program reached San Francisico Immigration courts in June 2012, but this was completely unexpected given that it is April--but what a nice surprise!
Not all deportation cases are good for administrative closure-- but this one was screaming out for it as of two years ago and finally Immigration officials agree! This particular client has a way to re-adjust her status outside of court. So this was the best possible outcome for her
WARNING: I repeat---Not all deportation cases are good for administrative closure, some people can ONLY adjust in deportation and if there is no other way for them to adjust outside of deportation, they will remain in limbo--They will no longer be fighting a deportation case but they will still be here without status, without the ability to work and subject to re-opening of the deportation case at any time.
The people with a good way to adjust their status in deporation must continue to fight their deporation case if they win that may be the ONLY way they can keep their residency or get their residency. So please if you or a loved one is offered administrative closure of your deportation case you MUST first consult with an experienced immigration attorney before accepting that offer.
